Ann Tarpley has served the people of Hampton as the 1st African American & Female Mayor, she is Hampton’s 27th mayor. Mayor Ann Tarpley gives voice to a diverse coalition of families and stands up for equality, inclusion, public safety and a strong local economy. She does this by staying community focused, having forward thinking principals and by preserving Hampton’s history.
Serving first as a councilmember allowed her to learn the nuances of government. During which time she served as the only councilmember to help rewrite the zoning laws from an antiquated non-conforming structure to a form-based structure creating the new Mix-Use zoning to help foster business and bring zoning codes that are designed for a 21st century future. Mayor Ann Tarpley also, established & implemented Hampton first Youth Council, exposing children from all walks of life to international laws and how those laws impact the world in which we live.
