To run for office in the City of Hampton, one must meet the following qualifications:
You must be a U.S. Citizen.
You must have been a resident of the City for one year at the time you qualify.
You must be a registered voter within the city of Hampton at the time of qualifying.
You may not have been convicted or sentenced for fraudulent violation of election laws, malfeasance in office, a felony involving moral turpitude or, if so, provide verification that your rights have been restored.
2019 Qualifying Information
Qualifying fee was set as follows:
City Council $252.00
The qualifying fee is 3% of the previous year’s annual salary of the office/position you are seeking plus any supplements.
Qualifying Dates and Time:
Qualifying dates for city council seats will begin August 19-23, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. until 5:00p.m. with an hour break each day beginning at 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.in the Office of the City Clerk.
