Business Licenses

Overview

The Community Development Department is responsible for providing service to the general public, business license applicants, and existing licensees. Our aim is to provide quality customer service, ensure access to accurate and timely business license data, and ensure all businesses are compliant with the City of Hampton business regulations.

How do I apply for a business license?

The city requires that each applicant submit a fully completed business license application (Business License Review Form - link below). A fee, based on the size and scope of the business, is required at the time of application. The form is then be reviewed by Community Development staff and the applicant is notified that their application is approved, denied, or requires more information. Once staff has reviewed and approved the business, the place of business is inspected by the city's fire marshal. Inspection of the structure is required prior to issuance of a CO (Certificate of Occupancy). CO is required for the business license.

Please review Business License Pathway below for additional instructions. Should you have questions, please contact the Community Development Department for assistance.
