Hampton High School students Hunter Harper and Ivan Olvera began their first work day as Student Interns for the City of Hampton. They will be providing administrative and technical assistance to the City Hall under the supervision of City Manager Charles L. Coney. Hunter and Ivan are rising seniors excelling academically, athletically, and socially at their school. They bring technology expertise as well as a thirst to better understand government. “This summer with the City of Hampton affords great professional development and learning. This internship is an example of workforce development in action.” Additionally, both students are participants representing Hampton and the United States in the “Ambassadors in Sneakers” 2018 Transatlantic Human Rights Academy. They recently returned from Kiel and Berlin, Germany as a part of the two-week German Academy. Later this summer, they will travel to Birmingham, Ala. and New York City, New York for the two-week American Academy. They are pictured showcasing their City of Hampton Employee badges and engaged in property classification analysis (their first project).
