Building Department

Overview

The Community Development Department manages the building permitting and inspection functions for the City of Hampton. Permits are required in advance of the initiation of construction, erection, moving or alteration of any building or structure where the estimated cost of such construction, erection, moving, or alterations is figured to be in excess of $300.00. The Hampton Building Code and International Building Code (IBC), latest edition provide requirements for building activities in the city.

The City of Hampton provides Fire Marshall plan review and inspections and building plan review and inspection services. Plans are submitted through GovWell. If you are new to the city's system, please create an account in GovWell, see link below.

Once a building permit has been issued, various inspections are required during the construction process. Inspections are also scheduled through the city's online permitting system. Should you have any issues scheduling an inspection, contact Tiffany Dobbins, Planner II, (770) 946-4306, ext. 2118. Inspection requests must be submitted prior to 3:00 pm for the following business day.

Please utilize the link provided below to create a GovWell account, submit plans, receive notices, and follow the review process.
